Privacy Policy for Ratio App
Last Updated: April 19, 2025
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Ratio ("the App"), operated by Jonathan O'Mahony, handles information when you use our iOS application. Our core principle is privacy-first; the App is designed to function entirely on your device.
2. Information We Collect (Data You Provide)
Ratio allows you to meticulously track your coffee brewing. The information you enter is stored directly within the App's private storage on your device. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Brew Log Data: Brewing method, dose, water amount, water temperature, grind settings, brew times, ratings, tasting notes, cupping scores, water type, TDS, associated photos.
- Bean Data: Bean name, roaster, origin, roast level, roast date, processing method, tasting notes, preparation notes, quantity information, associated photos.
- Grinder Data: Grinder name, make, model, type (electric/manual), setting type, notes.
- Recipe Data: Recipe name, method, source, parameters (dose, water, temp, etc.), instructions, linked beans.
- Photos: Photos you choose to attach to Brew Logs or Beans from your Photo Library or capture using the Camera via the App. Access to your Photo Library or Camera requires your explicit permission through standard iOS prompts.
3. How We Use Information
The information you enter is used solely to provide the App's functionality:
- To store and display your brew history, bean inventory, grinder details, and recipes.
- To calculate brew ratios and other derived data points shown within the App.
- To generate charts and visualizations based on your logged data.
- To pre-fill data when using saved recipes.
- To allow you to export your data via the built-in export feature.
4. Data Storage and Security
All data you enter into Ratio (including brew logs, bean details, photos, recipes, etc.) is stored locally on your device(s) using Apple's SwiftData framework within the App's private container. We do not operate any servers, and your data is not transmitted to us or any third party.
5. iCloud Sync (Optional, Future Feature)
Ratio includes functionality to optionally synchronize your data across multiple devices signed into the same Apple ID using Apple's iCloud service and CloudKit technology.
- User Control: iCloud sync must be explicitly enabled by you (typically via device settings for iCloud).
- Private Database: When enabled, your data is synced using your private CloudKit database, which is tied to your personal Apple ID. This data is stored securely on Apple's iCloud servers according to their terms and privacy policies.
- Developer Access: We, the developers of Ratio, do not have access to the data stored in your private CloudKit database. Synchronization occurs directly between your devices and Apple's iCloud servers.
- Disabling Sync: You can disable iCloud sync for the App via your device's iCloud settings at any time. Disabling sync may result in data becoming inconsistent across devices.
6. Data Export
The App includes a feature allowing you to export your Brew Log data (and potentially other data types in the future) into a common format (e.g., CSV). This process occurs entirely on your device, and you control the destination of the exported file via the standard iOS Share Sheet.
7. Third-Party Services & Analytics
Ratio does not use any third-party analytics services, advertising networks, or other services that would collect or transmit your personal data or usage information.
8. Children's Privacy
Ratio is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the relevant age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App or on our App Store page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
